ADVANCED TREATMENTS:
Recent advances in wound care allow clinicians to choose from some very beneficial treatments, including E-STIM, V.A.C. dressings, and MIST ultrasound. V.A.C.® Therapy is clinically proven to promote granulation, wound contraction and excellent drainage evacuation. MIST™ Ultrasound and is a newer modality that assists wound debridement using non-contact ultrasound administered with a saline mist. These treatments in combination appear to provide an excellent option for treatment.
V.A.C.® System is a registered trademark of KCI (Kinetics Concepts, Inc.) San Antonio, TX
V.A.C.® Therapy is short for Vacuum Assisted Closure. It is the controlled application of sub-atmospheric pressure to a wound using a therapy unit to intermittently or continuously convey negative pressure to a specialized wound dressing to help promote wound healing. The wound dressing is a resilient, open-cell foam surface dressing that assists tissue granulation and is sealed with an adhesive drape that contains the subatmospheric pressure at the wound site. Additionally, the V.A.C.® Therapy System helps direct drainage to a specially designed canister that reduces the risk of exposure to exudate fluids and infectious materials. V.A.C.® Therapy is prescribed for a variety of chronic and acute wound types, such as pressure ulcers, diabetic wounds, abdominal wounds, partial-thickness burns, trauma wounds, flaps and grafts.
V.A.C.® Therapy Benefits: • Helps promote wound healing • Assists tissue granulation in wounds • May allow for delayed primary closure • Minimizes suturing through fascia • Assists in wound stabilization via splinting effect • Collects and quantifies fluid
MIST Ultrasound is a registered trademark of Cellentran Inc., Eden Prairie MN
MIST THERAPY® SYSTEM is an innovative ultrasound device that utilizes ultrasonic sound waves to heal wounds.
MIST Therapy is an advanced wound care modality that promotes healing through cellular stimulation while removing bacteria from the wound.
In addition, MIST Therapy System is a painless noncontact ultrasound device that heals wounds without the traditional ultrasound requirement of direct contact with the skin.
MIST Therapy creates ultrasound waves that produce and propel a gentle mist of sterile saline to the wound bed. This resulting mist of saline improves the transfer of ultrasound from the device to the wound bed without contact or pain to the patient.
The noncontact MIST Therapy is unique because the mist replaces the coupling gel that is required for all other forms of ultrasound such as fetal monitoring, sports medicine, and physical therapy.
Promotes wound healing through wound cleansing and maintenance debridement by the removal of yellow slough, fibrin, tissue exudates and bacteria.
